The short answer

An app built in Hungary can cost a few thousand euros or well over a hundred thousand. The scope decides the price far more than the country does. One focused flow for early users is a small project. A platform with several user roles, payments and an admin panel is a big one.

On Clutch, most app development companies in Hungary list hourly rates between $50 and $99, and most take projects from $10,000. At UPRIVE, a product studio in Budapest, projects start from €3,000. A focused MVP goes live in two weeks at most, at a price we fix before any work starts.

What Hungarian studios and freelancers charge

You can hire a freelancer, an agency or a product studio, and each prices the work differently.

Freelancers charge the least per hour, but you run the project yourself, and design, testing and the backend often sit with different people. Agencies are the most common choice. Their rates on Clutch, mostly $50 to $99 an hour, usually include a project manager and testing. A product studio like UPRIVE puts design and engineering in one senior team, and you pay for a defined result, usually at a fixed price per phase, instead of buying hours.

The hourly rate is only half of the price. The other half is how many hours the work takes, and a senior team that has built the same kind of product before needs far fewer of them.

What drives the price

These are the factors that move a quote the most, roughly in order:

  • Every extra user role, such as admin, customer or partner, adds screens, permissions and testing.
  • A web app, an iOS app and an Android app are three products. Cross-platform frameworks like React Native or Flutter cut this down, but not to one.
  • Each integration, whether payments, an existing company system, maps or a bank connection, adds work and risk.
  • A clean interface on a design system is quicker to build than a custom visual language with motion and illustration.
  • Most apps need a backend: a database, user accounts and an admin area where your team manages content and users.
  • AI features built on a language model need prompt work, evaluation and guardrails. Connecting the API is the small part.
  • Launch takes time too: app store review, analytics and the first fixes once real users arrive.

Typical timelines and budgets

The easiest way to estimate a budget is to start from time. These are the timelines we work to at UPRIVE:

  • An MVP with one focused flow takes two weeks at most and starts from €3,000 at a fixed price. See MVP in 2 weeks.
  • An internal tool, such as a dashboard or an admin panel, takes three to six weeks at a fixed price. See Internal tools.
  • The first release of a mobile app usually takes two to four months. See Mobile App Development.
  • The first release of a web app or SaaS platform usually takes three to six months. See Web App Development.

To turn time into money, multiply people by hours by rate. Two people working for four weeks put in about 320 hours. At the $50 to $99 an hour most Hungarian firms list, that comes to roughly $16,000 to $32,000. If a quote for the same scope is far below that, expect a smaller team, fewer hours or less testing than you assumed.

Fixed price or hourly?

A fixed price works when the scope is clear, and it protects you from a project that keeps growing. Hourly or monthly billing suits a product that keeps changing after launch.

We use both. The first phase is always fixed. For an MVP we agree the scope and the price in the first half day, and for bigger projects you get a plan and a number within a week of the scoping call. After launch, most clients keep us on a monthly retainer and improve the product with real users.

Costs after launch

The build is not the last invoice. The Apple Developer Program costs $99 a year, and a Google Play developer account has a one-time fee of $25. Servers, databases, email and analytics usually start as a small monthly sum and grow with usage. New iOS and Android versions, security updates and bug fixes need regular maintenance, and once people use the product they will ask for features you did not plan. Budget for all of it from the start.

How to get an accurate number

You get a reliable quote fastest if you describe the product in a few lines before the first call:

  • who uses it, and the one thing they need to get done
  • which platforms it has to run on
  • which systems it has to connect to
  • when it has to be live

Send us that and we will tell you what it takes. You get a plan and a fixed price within a week, and if a two-week MVP fits, we start there. Start a project or read more about app development in Budapest.
