SFC: an investment app for private wealth clients

SFC's clients now see their portfolio live in an investment app. We did the UX research, UI design and prototype for MXC Software and tested it with Maze.

What was the problem?

SFC Hungary does private wealth and investment management. Its clients had no app at all: portfolio updates reached them by email.

SFC wanted its clients to see their portfolio live, in one place. MXC Software, the development partner building the app, brought us in for the design. Our goal was a clear, trustworthy overview of portfolios, bonds, yields and transactions, with the focus on long term performance.

What we delivered

Our role: research, design and prototype

We did the UX research, analysed the user journey, designed the UI in Figma and built the clickable prototype. We also ran the user testing in Maze. MXC Software developed and delivered the app.

What the app shows

• Portfolio: the client's holdings, updated live.

• Bonds and yields: the bond holdings and the yields they produce.

• Transactions: the full transaction history.

• Privacy: one control hides every sensitive value at once.

Three design choices

Complex data revealed step by step

Bond and yield data can easily overload a screen. We show the overview first and reveal the detail step by step, to keep the cognitive load low.

Calm feedback for gains and losses

Gains and losses get calm visual feedback. We designed the whole app around clarity and confidence, and the way it reports a change in value follows that.

A single switch to hide the numbers

One privacy control hides all sensitive values instantly, for the moments when the user does not want the numbers on screen.

What the user testing changed

We tested the prototype in Maze with users matching the main persona, people aged 35 to 45. They could use the app efficiently. The testing produced a lot of useful feedback, and based on the heatmaps we redesigned a few parts.
